WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOLAR PHOTOVOLOTAIC (PV) AND SOLAR HOT WATER SYSTEMS?
While both types of solar systems capture energy from the sun, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems use photovoltaic panels to produce electricity. Solar hot water, or thermal, systems capture sunlight to heat water for domestic use. In other words Solar PV produces electricity while Solar Thermal conserves electricity and provides free Hot Water for Life!
HOW MUCH MAINTENCE DO SOLAR ENERGY PANELS REQUIRE?
Solar photovoltaic panels require little maintenance- no need to wash or dust. It is important however to have one of our energy experts place the panels where they are and will remain clear of nearby shading. Solar hot water collection arrays need even less attention. We recommend an annual cleaning.
WHAT IS THE IDEAL DIRECTION FOR SOLAR PANELS TO FACE ON A HOUSE OR BUSINESS?
A roof that faces south is the ideal roof for a solar panel system. However a roof facing south-east or south-west will still produce a substantial amount of energy.
DO SOLAR PANELS WORK IN CLOUDY WEATHER OR THE SHADE?
There is a huge difference in the two. In cloudy weather the panels still produce energy, because the sun’s radiation penetrates the cloud cover. However in shady area i.e. trees, chimney panels could lose 50% or better of their production.
